“I took that pill and I freaked out. As soon as I did it, I regretted it. It’s not the baby’s fault, the baby didn’t ask to be here…I just wanted to reverse it.” It had been done. The decision had already been made and the pill had already been taken. Was it too late?
Fear of an unknown future, fear of not “being enough” or “having enough” … fear is what makes a woman experiencing an unplanned pregnancy to be consumed with overwhelm. “What ‘ifs” cloud her mind on the inside and voices of shame can penetrate her heart from the outside. The noise leads to chaos and the chaos leads to panic. “I just can’t.”
Dawna walked into LaVie with a heart racing and a decision in her hands. She had just had a baby the year before. She wept as the news of another pregnancy broke her. She bawled. As part of her initial appointment, Dawna saw her baby’s ultrasound. The baby’s heartbeat beating in double time alongside her own racing heart. Her “I can’t” turns to “maybe I can.”
But fear…
Fear creeps into the dark places of contemplation. The voice shouting “you aren’t enough and you don’t have enough to do this” drove her to frantically call LaVie to state she cannot have this baby. She asked to schedule an abortion and LaVie’s team reminded her that is not a service we provide. Out of frustration, Dawna ended the call and stopped communicating with us. A deep heartache our team lifted up to our Lord, “God, you know her, you see her, you love her, please Lord, do something, work your miracle in her.”
Two weeks after meeting Dawna, LaVie was contacted by the Abortion Pill Reversal Hotline. Dawna needed LaVie’s help.
Time was of the essence, and LaVie knew it. Within an hour of the hotline phone call, Dawna was in our care, a provider had been called, and a prescription to reverse the pill was ready to go. We were going to fight to give every possible chance at life for the little one resting inside.
Women just like Dawna find themselves taking abortion pills and then begging to reverse it…to rewind…to go back to the place where courage was a little stronger than fear. They want to believe that somehow, in some way, there is hope and hope-filled options. They want a new beginning out of what felt like a horrible ending.
Jesus is the King of redemption plots. Taking something scary…something that seems like an end…something that looks to be like ashes… and then he makes something beautiful. He sees. He loves. He rescues. He makes Beauty from Ashes… Reversing and redeeming.
Dawna bravely chose to continue her pregnancy and we took care of her all along the way. Gianna was born and what a little beauty she is. Dawna has a great support system in her mom who is over the moon in love with baby Gianna. How can you not be? Look at her! Dawna is sharing her story to inspire girls like her to believe they have other options and for supporters like you that can help make those options happen for her. We keep our services at no-cost or very low-cost in order to care for her without hinderance. Help us find more Dawnas in our area and save more Giannas in 2025.
